I have always had a passion for playing sports. As a child, I was always on the football field, baseball field, or on my 10 speed pretending I was in the Tour de France. In high school, I played football, basketball, baseball and track; but football was what took me to college. Unfortunately, as a freshman, I sustained a femur fracture, which ended my football career. This was just the beginning of my never-ending pursuit of finding my passion for fitness again. I became a gym rat, played intramurals of any and every sport I could, but still felt unfulfilled. After college and culinary school, I worked to pay back loans and just went to gym after gym finding comfort in none. Many years later, a friend told me about the “sport of fitness” called CrossFit. At the time, there were no affiliates near so I did WODs on my own finding them on the CrossFit website and visited other boxes when I travelled. CrossFit was changing my body, attitude and gave me hope that I could be in the same shape I was in back in college. Something was missing though….the community aspect of CrossFit, so I had an idea. I just had to share CrossFit with others, got Level 1 certified and opened Blue Ridge CrossFit in 2009. There were just a few members at first but then our family grew quickly. CrossFit continues to amaze me how effective it is on athletes old and new. CrossFit has helped both young and old find their inner athlete or become better athletes. I encourage you to come try CrossFit very soon; it will become the best lifestyle change you have ever made. Come play the sport of fitness with me!

I stumbled upon a CrossFit article in a fitness magazine in 2008. The article intrigued me, because I had stopped gaining results and was bored with my routine at the globogym I belonged to. I sought out the closest box to Asheville at the time and made the two hour drive to find out if CrossFit was the training I had been looking for. One WOD and I was hooked! I began to follow mainsite and incorporate movements into my programming. I met Eddie soon after and began training at Blue Ridge CrossFit and obtained my Level 1 certification. I have been coaching at BRCF for over two years and continue to grow my knowledge of movement and functionality through advanced CrossFit courses. Coaching allows me to help my clients reach goals they thought were unobtainable and experiencing their progress motivates me to become a better trainer and athlete.

CrossFit helps me stay sane. It makes me feel alive and keeps the funk from setting in. I believe it’s what we need as humans. We are not meant to be sedentary, but rather to move a lot. The more energy I invest with CrossFit , running, biking, etc, the more energy I have to devote to my wife, kids and work. I am 45 and have always felt like a idiot at every “gym” I have tried to work out in, until now. I think I might be in the best physical condition I have been in the last 25 years. I am humbled and honored to be able to share my knowledge with the other members of our Blue Ridge CrossFit community, and I want to thank you for the opportunity to train you!

CrossFit's definition of fitness and its prescriptions for exercise and nutrition provide a potent counterpoint to the view of fitness one finds in most magazines and big box gyms today. That view, along with the theory and methodology that goes into implementing CrossFit has helped me remain productive and successful over the last five years. In that time, I have gone back to school and changed careers, watched my family grow with the arrival of my three youngest children, taken and passed the CPA exam, and moved a few times just to keep life interesting. In February of 2011, I took and passed the CrossFit Level 1 certification course to continue my personal growth and to allow me to start to give back to the CrossFit community. As a trainer, my goal is to help you see and realize your athletic potential through CrossFit, whether it be learning a new movement or making it better, learning more about nutrition, or defining where you want to be and setting goals to help you get there.

CrossFit has allowed me to challenge myself and to train in a competitive environment. I want to empower women of all ages; increase/improve overall strength (mentally and physically), confidence, and overall health. I encourage women to challenge their perceived limitations of their body/strength.

I joined Blue Ridge Crossfit at a time in my life when I thought my days as an athlete were over. I had always thrived in competitive atmospheres - playing soccer, softball, basketball and hockey for 15+ years. I was contemplating a life without competition when I was introduced to my first WOD.
Crossfit changed my life. In just weeks at Blue Ridge Crossfit my confidence in my abilities grew and my body soon responded in ways I thought were part of my past. The short, intense WODs were a perfect match and Blue Ridge Crossfit members quickly became like family.
Over the years I have seen this transformation in so many other people that have dared to Crossfit. It is for this reason that I decided to embark on the new challenge of becoming a Level I Crossfit Trainer.
I enjoy being part of a program that allows others to push their limits and go places they never dreamed they could go no matter what their background, age, sex or limitations. Blue Ridge Crossfit is that and more.

“In my years as a physical therapist, I have used many types of functional training with my patients, and learned about Crossfit in 2006. However, my commitment to cycling and other sports kept me away from Crossfit until early 2011. My first WOD with Blue Ridge Crossfit was an eye opener! Focusing solely on endurance events had made me weaker than ever in many ways. The friendly but competitive environment and unmatched intensity of Crossfit brought me results in my overall fitness and mental well being that I never dreamed of! As a coach, it has also allowed me to bring my prior sports experience and knowledge in human movement into a truly unique community.”
When Doug is not training at Blue Ridge Crossfit, he is the Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Coordinator for Medwest-Haywood Sports Medicine and has been helping athletes and active individuals since 1999. Doug is a certified manual therapist, holds a master's and doctoral degree in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami.

I have been Crossfitting since 2010 when I began doing crossfit.com WOD's at a large globo gym. Having lost over 60 pounds since getting married I had become a typical gym rat. Spending 2 hours at the gym, 3 or 4 times a week was nothing for me. I soon became bored and started looking at other options. I found CrossFit through a school mate who first learned about it while stationed in Iraq. It looked pretty intense so I gave it a shot. I suffered through a fifteen minute workout, cried on the floor and proceeded lose my lunch. After that I was hooked.
Every WOD is a battle and I feel like I've accomplished something big every time the clock runs out. That's why I CrossFit.
I have been married since 2004 to my beautiful wife Amanda.
I currently work as a Radiologic Technologist at Mission Hospital.
